The Director is Dr Mark Diesendorf, an environmental scientist, who was for several years vice-president of the Australia & New Zealand Society for Ecological Economics and Adjunct Professor of Sustainability Policy at Murdoch University. He also teaches at the Institute of Environmental Studies at the University of New South Wales. From 1996 to 2001 he was Professor of Environmental Science and Founding Director of the Institute for Sustainable Futures at University of Technology, Sydney. He was co-founder and vice-president of the Sustainable Energy Industries Council of Australia (SEICA). His main areas of applied research, consulting and teaching are sustainable energy, urban transport and sustainable development in general. His latest book is Greenhouse Solutions with Sustainable Energy (2007).

The Developing Countries Coordinator is Dr Wahidul K. Biswas. He has a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka, a Masters in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London, and a PhD from University of Technology, Sydney. He has worked in Bangladesh, Britain, Thailand and Australia as a researcher, consultant and university teacher. After being awarded an international postdoctoral fellowship, which held until 2005 at the University of New South Wales, he accepted a lecturing position at Curtin University. His main areas of expertise are in the roles of renewable energy, water and agriculture in sustainable rural development.

Other associates are experts in sustainable energy, environmental education and organisational change from various academic, government and professional backgrounds.
