Sustainability Centre
was registered as a proprietary limited company in 2001, with
the goal to promote ecologically sustainable
and socially just development. Owing to the pressure of
his academic work, the company's Director, Dr Mark Diesendorf,
closed the company on 30 June 2007. However, he continues
to trade in his spare time as Sustainability Centre,
a sole trader registered in New South Wales, with the same
products as the original company. Sustainability Centre's
main products are:
Applied Research and Consulting
on various aspects of sustainable development. Our specialities
are sustainable energy (i.e. efficient energy use and renewable
sources of energy), sustainable urban transport, and the transformation
of cities into Eco-cities.
Short Training Courses
on
various aspects of sustainable development, with principal
case studies drawn from the above specialities.

Mt
Siguinang (pictured at the top of this page), which is in
Sichuan, China, symbolises the goal of sustainability. Incidentally,
its highest peak (altitude 6250m) has apparently not been
climbed. The three technologies pictured above -- the Solar
Sailor ferry, light rail and BP's futuristic solar powered
building -- are also symbols of sustainability. But hardware
is only one aspect of the sustainable development process.
In facilitating this process, Sustainability Centre also addresses
economics, policy options, organisational structure and function,
institutions, social equity, education and training.
